Flooding has been reported in the northern province of Chiang Rai and north-eastern province of Nakhon Phanom in Thailand over the last 3 days. Meanwhile the province of Sisaket is still facing a drought, with levels of the Rasi Salai Dam critically low.
Thai state news agency NNT report that the Mekong and Sai rivers have overflowed in Chiang Rai province, although levels have started to drop. Houses and farmland in Chiangsan and Mae Sai districts were worst affected.
In Nakhon Phanom, more than 3,000 homes and 30,000 rai of rice paddies have been inundated in Sri Songkram district after the Songkram River overflowed the embankment and flooded surrounding areas. Residents were forced out of their homes, and had to take refuge on the street.
Heavy rain has been reported over the last 24 hours in the norther province of Nong Khai, where Nong Khai saw 50.7 mm of rain between 05 and 06 August 2015.
Meanwhile, southern areas have also seen heavy rain. Takua Pa in Phang Nga Province saw 61.9 mm in the past 24 hours, and 50.8 mm was recorded in Ranong province, according to WMO figures.
Thai Meteorological Department say that, over the next 2 days, heavy rain is forecast to affect the north, north-east, east and south-west coast with the risk of possible flash flood in some areas of Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Trat, Ranong, Phang-nga and Phuket.
